Clariant

Clariant (B): On the Route to Profitable Growth (2011-2016)

Summary

This is part of a case series. This case shows the transformation of Clariant's businesses by shifting its product portfolio from commodity to specialty chemicals. The case begins with the significant and strategically important acquisition of Sud-Chemie. Completing Sud-Chemie's purchase enabled Clariant to implement an effective corporate strategy that centers on profitability improvement, innovation, entry into emerging markets, active portfolio management, and sustainability. The new strategy also changed Clariant's image and corporate identity. This case is an excellent opportunity to discuss corporate strategy's most critical components in specialized or general strategic management courses.
