Martina Montauti
Assistant Professor
Martina Montauti is Assistant Professor of Strategic and International Management at the University of St.Gallen. Taking roots in the fields of strategy and organization theory, her research focuses on how the cognitive and social character of categorization decisions affect firm- and market-level outcomes such as competition, entry, and performance returns. Martina Montauti received her PhD in Economics (major in Management) from Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland). During her doctoral training, she has been a visiting researcher at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA). Prior to her appointment at the Uni-versity of St.Gallen, she has been a faculty member of IE Business School (Madrid, Spain), where she has gained substantial research and teaching experience.
Martina Montauti joined the Institute of Management and Strategy as an Assistant Professor of Strategic and International Management in 2022. Her research investigates how the cognitive and social character of categorization decisions affect firm- and market-level outcomes such as competition, entry, and per-formance returns. With a strong interest in creative and knowledge-intensive contexts, Martina Montauti has extensively analyzed the evolution of the music industry and the higher education sector. Her research projects have appeared in international peer-reviewed journals and academic conferences. In her previous position at IE Business School, Martina Montauti taught strategy courses at the MBA, DBA, PhD, and master level. At the University of St. Gallen, her teaching topics include strategic decision making and stakeholder-based strategies, which expand on her research interest in the cognitive and social aspects of categorization, respectively, as well as industry evolution and research in management, both contextualizing her approach to empirical research through longitudinal data.
