Helvetia

Evolution of the 'HOME' Ecosystem: The Case of Helvetia

Summary

Helvetia, headquartered in St Gallen, is a successful insurance group with over 12,000 employees and more than 7 million customers. Founded in 1858, Helvetia is the leading Swiss all-line insurer. With its HOME ecosystem, Helvetia aimed to integrate partners that could serve all customer needs related to accommodation. This case outlines the emergence of Helvetia's business ecosystem, which transformed it from a traditional insurance provider into a customer-journey dream. Students will gain knowledge on three levels. First, students are introduced to the concept of an ecosystem in general (description). Second, they analyze Helvetia's business ecosystem in particular (analysis). Third, students envision the options available to Helvetia's ecosystem in the future (transfer). In addition, the case allows students to gain insights into the insurance industry.
